Smart Glass Transformers

The quiet workhorse of every switchable-glass system: a low-voltage transformer that turns wall power into the 60V AC your PDLC film or glass runs on.

The part nobody sees — and nothing works without

Every PDLC system — smart film and smart glass alike — runs on low-voltage power. The transformer is what makes that safe and reliable:

  • Steps household power down to 60V AC, the operating voltage of the PDLC layer
  • One per circuit, sized to the square footage of glass it drives
  • Concealed installation — wall cavity, ceiling, or cabinet, never visible

More than one way to flip the glass

The transformer circuit doesn't care what triggers it: a dimmer, remote control, mobile app, touch panel, smart-home system (Lutron, Crestron, Control4), or voice (Alexa, Google Home). Pick one or combine several — a wall switch for everyday use, the app for schedules, voice for showing off.

The lineup: 15W to 500W

Ten models, one job. Every unit is a Smart View AC power supply and includes the receiver and remote — the dimmable models add a wall switch with variable opacity control.

Tell us your glass sizes and we pick the right unit — the "covers up to" column shows each model's maximum film area.

Connections: simple by design

Every unit carries the same straightforward panel — your electrician (or our install team) will feel at home immediately:

  • 110VAC IN — standard wall power in
  • POWER OUTPUT — 60V AC out to the film's busbar wiring
  • SWITCH — dry-contact port for a wall switch or smart-home relay
  • ON/OFF — manual override right on the unit

One unit drives a whole circuit of panels; the receiver pairs the included remote out of the box.

Need help choosing? Send your glass measurements to info@smartviewsmartglass.com and we'll size the circuit for you.

Supplied with every install — or on its own

Every Smart View installation includes correctly-sized transformers (spelled out as a line item in your quote — see the cost guide). We also supply transformers separately:

  • Replacements for failed units on existing systems — ours or anyone else's (smart glass repair)
  • Material-only orders — we ship film, glass, and matched transformers nationwide, with wiring guidance for your electrician

Sizing matters more than people think

An under-sized transformer switches slowly, hums, or fails early; an oversized one wastes money. We match the unit to your exact panel area and circuit layout during the site survey — one of the reasons we quote after measuring, not before.

Frequently asked questions

What does a smart glass transformer actually do?
Your wall outlet delivers 110–120V — far more than PDLC needs. The transformer steps that down to 60V AC, the voltage that aligns the liquid crystals and turns the glass clear. No transformer, no switching.
How many transformers does my project need?
One per circuit of panels, sized to the total film area it drives. A typical bathroom or office takes a single unit; whole-floor projects run several circuits. We calculate this during the site survey so nothing is under-powered.
Can you replace the transformer on an existing system — even one we didn't install?
Yes. If your smart glass stopped switching, a failed transformer is the most common cause and usually the cheapest fix. We diagnose, supply the right unit, and swap it — see our smart glass repair service.
Where does the transformer go? Will I see it?
Concealed — in the wall cavity, ceiling, or a nearby cabinet, with the low-voltage wiring hidden inside the frame. You see glass and a switch, nothing else.
