Smart Glass Sliding Door Pasadena — Project Overview
In 2025 our team partnered with KNR Sliding Doors to deliver 110 sqft of PDLC switchable smart glass on a custom sliding door for a commercial office in Pasadena. KNR designed and built the sliding door system; Smart View integrated switchable smart film so the glass transitions from clear to frosted at the press of a handheld remote. The result is a smart glass sliding door Pasadena businesses can use to partition a meeting room or executive office without blinds, shades, or construction.
The Problem
The office needed a way to separate a shared workspace from a private meeting and executive area that could stay fully transparent when rooms weren’t in use — keeping the space feeling open and bright — and switch to full privacy on demand during sensitive meetings. A fixed wall would have broken the open floor plan. A standard slider with blinds would have added daily cleaning load and looked out of place against the finished commercial build-out.

The Solution
KNR Sliding Doors designed and built the custom sliding door to fit the office opening precisely. We integrated PDLC switchable smart glass film into the door during build, wired the panel into a low-voltage circuit, and paired it with a handheld remote. When clear, the door disappears into the architectural line of the office; when switched, it frosts instantly for complete visual privacy — no moving blinds, no fabric, no maintenance.

The Outcome
The office now switches between an open, transparent workspace and a fully private executive and meeting room in a second — no blinds, no moving parts beyond the door itself, no re-training on how to use it. The client confirmed the instant clear-to-frosted transition delivered exactly what they specified during design, and that the finish of the KNR sliding door integrated cleanly with the existing architectural line of the office.
